Ranguana Cay

A relaxed daytime anchorage, this sandy two-acre island has no roads, and just about manages space for a bar and three traditional stilted wooden ‘cabana’ beach huts. Remote and peaceful, Ranguana is the place to spend your last afternoon before returning to Placencia, and boasts great snorkeling and bird watching.

Its scenic, natural beauty will leave you with the sense that you are the only person to have ever come across such a perfect and idyllic island. So take some time to relax and chill out on the beach before jumping into your kayak to explore.

Perched right atop of the barrier reef, Ranguana has some excellent patch reef snorkelling and some amazing wall dives to discover. In fact, the underwater activities are so good here even the marine life know they are on to a good thing and you can expect to see turtles, manta rays, moray eels, lobster and tropical fish in abundance.

Relaxing has to be Ranguana’s number one activity and back ashore this sandy spit has no roads, so kick off your sandals and feel the sand between your toes. Soak up the Caribbean sun on the pristine beach before taking a dip in its warm shallow waters, or merely sway the day away in a beach hammock. Before you head back onboard for the evening, don’t forget to sample some of the delicious freshly caught seafood and authentic local delicacies from the islands only restaurant and bar. This tiny reef resort truly is a retreat into paradise.

Mooring

  • There are three moorings available for a fee. The best is just west of the sand spit at the southeast end of the Cay
  • No dinghy dockage is available but you can simply beach the dinghy anywhere on the west side of the Cay.
  • This cay is lovely for a day visit but it's not recommended to stay overnight here. Lark Cay or Placencia Harbour are recommended overnight options.
