Leonidion Yacht Charters

Surrounded by gigantic ochre cliffs, Leonidion is a prosperous and traditional market town in the eastern Peloponnese. Its harbour, also known as Plaka, is a delightful stop-over on a Leonidion yacht charter – somewhere to relax and enjoy a good meal at one of the waterfront tavernas.  A twenty five minute taxi ride from the harbour lies the spectacular monastery of Elonas, a white slash built into the sheer cliffs of the Dhafnon Gorge.

The small church is crammed with icons and lanterns and there is a small spring, the water from which is reputed to have curative properties. The monastery dates from medieval times, built in this seemingly inaccessible site following the miraculous appearance of an icon – said to be by St Luke. The monastery was rebuilt after the War of Independence and became a convent in 1972.
