Frikes Ithaca

Ithaca is of course synonymous with The Odyssey and there have been some archaeological finds on the Island that evidence Mycenaean settlement if not the full-blown Mycenaean kingdom described in Homer’s epic work.

Ithaca is a delightful island to sail around and Frikes, on the north east coast, is a lovely harbour to stop at and spend some time absorbing the relaxed ambience. The village is situated at the bottom of a steep, wooded valley with old houses clustered around the harbour and two windmills standing on a rocky outcrop above and to the east of the village.

The village has a good range of bars and tavernas and in high season there is an open-air nightclub where you can indulge yourself in the kind of embarrassing dance moves that only happen on holiday with a few drinks on board. There is a terrific beach just outside the town where the water is an extraordinary shade of blue and makes for wonderful snorkelling.

One of the pleasures of Frikes Ithaca is cruising around Ormos Frikon bay and stopping at the numerous lovely anchorages for an afternoon of swimming and relaxing. At Ormos Vathi Limani you can go ashore and explore the ruins of the monastery of Ay Nikolaos which was destroyed in the 1953 earthquake, though the church still stands.

  • Berth alongside the short mole or on the detached pontoon.
  • Large yachts can go stern-to the outside of the mole with a long line to it.
  • In calm weather, there are various nearby anchorages dotted around the Bay of Ormos Frikon that can be used.

To Do:
