Whitehaven Beach

Whitehaven beach is a dazzling, unspoilt six-kilometre stretch of sandy delight, nestled between the deep green tropical bush and the crystal clear turquoise waters of Whitsunday Island. One of the most naturally beautiful places in the world, this awe-inspiring beach with its peaceful ambience and picture perfect scenery is the ultimate way to spend a castaway day escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Its pure white-silica sands mean that however hot the bright Australian sun gets, the sand doesn’t, so kick off your sandals and let your feet sink into the shore as you explore this islands treasures. Head for the northern end of the beach where you’ll find Hill Inlet, one of Whitehaven’s best-kept secrets. It’s a stunning bay where when the tide shifts the sands and water, which collide and swirl together creating a beautiful fusion of colours. For the best view on the island, take the short bushwalk up to Betty’s lookout where you’ll find magnificent panoramic views out across Whitehaven beach, Hill inlet and beyond. Don’t forget to look down into the shallow waters below to spot some of the stingrays, which gather here.

Head back down to the shore for a spot of snorkelling just off the beach, where under-the-sea-adventurers will be treated to a variety of colourful reef fish and coral; or take to your kayak and explore the surrounding breathtaking coastline and find a deserted inlet in which to have an indulgent picnic lunch before lying back and soaking up the warm rays of the sun, it’s just another hard day in paradise.

  • Swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing are the main attractions. Anchor or moor at Tongue Bay and walk the bush track to the boardwalk viewing area over the stunning Hill Inlet. For the more energetic adventurers follow the bush track down to Betty's Beach and relaxing and take a swimming in amongst the swirling sands
