Avea Bay Huahine

Sail along the west coast of Huahine, just inside the barrier reef, past the dramatic and mountainous shoreline peppered with numerous beautiful indented bays and scenic anchorages until you reach Avea Bay in the southwest. It’s well worth the distance as this stunning picture postcard bay boasts one of the best beaches in Huahine and an excellent place to drop anchor and explore its tropical treasures.

Set against a lush green backdrop of mango, papaya and banana groves, the soft white-sand beach is bordered by the warm, emerald green and azure blue waters of the lagoon. The swimming and snorkelling here are superb so don your mask and flippers and take to the water.

The sparkling and colourful coral reef holds an abundance of sea life and you can expect to see tiny electric blue damsels darting amongst schools of shimmering tunas and Napoleon fish; and if you’re lucky you might spot the playful dolphins frolicking on the outer reef. Step ashore and rich vanilla aroma hits you straight away.

Find yourself a secluded spot nestled amongst the swaying palms for an al fresco picnic or take the opportunity to dine out in the bays restaurant, Chez Mauraii for some tasty, traditional dishes. Just before dusk, head back onboard for an evening refreshment as you gaze out across the horizon and watch the last warm hues of the Polynesian sun set over the lagoon.
