On a yacht charter to Taunga you’ll find one of the most beautiful islands within the Vava’u group. The snorkelling here is superb and on the eastern side of the island there’s a vast underwater kingdom for you to explore. Mixtures of soft and hard corals form a dramatic background for an amazing variety of exotic fish, octopus and lobsters.

At low tide you can venture further afield and walk across a slender ribbon of the sand bank to the neighbouring islets of Ngau and Pau, where you can take a pleasant stroll amongst the coconut groves of these uninhabited atolls. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the indigenous Flying Foxes which you’ll find hanging from the fruit trees.

After a morning spent discovering the amazing array of underwater life, head back ashore to Taunga and prepare yourself for an evening of entertainment and sumptuous Tongan style cuisine. Well known for its welcoming hospitality and authentic Tongan feasts, the local villagers here regularly get together to host these spectacular evenings for visiting sailors.

Delicious roast suckling pork, delicate octopus and fresh reef fish dishes are complemented with locally grown root crops and tropical fruits. After dinner there’s a live traditional song and dance performance and if you don’t feel like jumping up and joining in, just sit back and enjoy the rhythms before heading back onboard for a peaceful nights rest.

There are no moorings available. Overnight anchorage can be found in the eastern side of the island where there is good protection from south and west winds.
