Abelike Bay
Abelike Bay on the northern end of Meganisi is a large, natural cove barely touched by human hands. The undeveloped shores of Abelike Bay are free from the kind of amenities and facilities you’d expect from the average sailing destination, and this is the charm of the place. Swim and snorkel in the warm waters of the bay without a soul to disturb you, and enjoy a final beachside barbecue with your new flotilla friends as the sun dips below the horizon. This untouched piece of paradise is the perfect location for a final blissed-out evening before you return to the hustle and bustle of the everyday.

There are also the remains of the ancient city of Nikopolis to the north, which was built by Octavius after he defeated Anthony in battle when he became besotted by Cleopatra. It’s known as the River of Styx and there are boat trips you can take up the river. There are also kayaking trips up the river for those interested in more of a challenge. It is a quiet local place, and the restaurants are well supplied with fresh caught fish. You can head to Mongonnissi, Paxos which is south of the island and offers a mix of dock space and free swinging at anchor. It was thought to be nearly impregnable; history mentions the castle as early as 1337, and the references all give the impression that its origins are Venetian. The castle splits the town of Parga to the south from the bay of Valtou to the north, where the boats will moor. To get into town, you can walk up and over the hill past the castle or take your dinghy. In the evening, you can enjoy the regatta with the crew and fellow flotilla companions.

As we leave Meganissi behind we head east towards a much more traditional and quiet side of the Ionian. Kioni, Ithaca
We head south towards Ithaca. The picturesque village of Kioni. Bougainvillea-clad traditional houses. It’s tiny but stunning and not to be missed. On the way, we have the island of Atokos. To the east is One House Bay, where we have our own wild pigs. A little further to the south is Cliff Bay. Stunning natural white cliffs towering above. One of the deepest areas we have at around 300M depth in places….so deep even the depth sounders cant return the signal in the black oily waters.
